How to Extract Text from a Scanned PDF

Upload a readable PDF scan and save the recognized content separately from the original.

1

Upload the scanned PDF

Choose the file and select the pages you need. Check that the source scan is upright and the text is legible.

2

Choose Content extraction

Use this mode for document text and tables. Choose Table extraction instead if your goal is only table data or factual records.

3

Run OCR and check the result

Click Process files. Compare names, reference numbers, punctuation, and reading order with the scan.

4

Save the recognized content

Download TXT or Markdown, copy the result, or export extracted tables to Excel. PDF export creates a new document from the result.

Your PDF Opens, but You Cannot Copy Its Text

Scanned pages are pictures of words, so copying a passage or a table may return nothing.

No selectable words
You can read the page in a viewer but cannot paste its text into your document.
Faint or tilted scans
Low contrast, skew, and damaged print can make some words harder to recognize.
Tables inside scanned pages
You need rows and columns from the scan to use its data in a spreadsheet.

Recognize Text and Tables in PDF Scans

Save recognized text and tables separately from the original scan. TXT and Markdown support text reuse; PDF export creates a new document from the results rather than adding a source text layer.

Read visible words even when the source PDF has no selectable text layer.

Choose Content extraction to recover readable sections for notes or editing.

Choose Table extraction when you need the table’s labels and values for a worksheet.

Save TXT or Markdown for text work, or export extracted tables to Excel or CSV.

Reuse Scanned Documents without Full Transcription

Bring recognized content into the tools where you need to read, edit, or organize it.

Copy a scanned passage
Take text into your notes after checking important wording against the scan.
Edit in your document app
Download text and make corrections in the editor you already use.
Prepare a worksheet from a scan
Export table rows instead of entering each visible cell manually.
Share the extracted content
Print the result as a new PDF when you need a readable document version.
